Marlene Dietrich in Blonde Venus 1932
1930's film siren Marlene Dietrich was such a diva! She demanded that Hollywood makeup legend Max Factor sprinkle real gold dust into her wigs, which she felt added extra lustre to her hair on camera. This little trick wasn't cheap. At the time, powdered gold was $60 an ounce, and half an ounce was needed to add shimmer to a wig. At the end of the days shoot, about $23 worth could be recovered for use the next day. This is SUCH a glamorous idea! Here is a modern (and much cheaper) option:
Reflects Gold Glitter by MAC
Reflects Gold Glitter is a microfine white diamond powder that flashes pale gold in the light. It's not sold in department or retail stores, and is only available for purchase at MAC PRO industry shops. Apply a fine misting of light hold hairspray like Bumble and bumble Shaping Spray to the hair. Pour a small amount of Reflects Gold Glitter into the palm of your hand, blow into the air, make a wish and twirl into the fairy dust cloud. This will ensure an even application of magic. SHINE!
